These musketeers are a modern interpretation of classic swashbucklers

The Department of Theatre Arts in the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences opens its student production of “The Three Musketeers” on Friday, Nov. 11, at The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre.

The play features an impressive array of sword fighting and stage combat, and it is directed by Burton Tedesco, an assistant professor who is also overseeing the fight choreography.

Ken Ludwig’s interpretation of the classic tale was chosen, in part, because of the number of female student actors. The story follows not only protagonist D’Artagnan and the musketeers, but also D’Artagnan’s sister, Sabine. In fact, the play’s culminating fight is between Sabine and Milady Laurence de Winter, both female characters.

The show runs from Nov. 11 to Nov. 19; tickets can be purchased online or in person at the box office.
