With a variety of campus religious organizations, services, resources, and programming, the University of Miami offers its campus community access to a wide range of spiritual resources. Offering more than 13 faith-based student organizations on campus, as well as the academic study of religions and spiritualty, the University embraces religious diversity and is welcoming to all students.

To continue fostering dialogue that enhances the understanding of diversity, to expand knowledge across differences, and to challenge members of the University community to contribute to our local and global community, the Office of the President will partner with the Division of Student Affairs and Student Government on the popular series, “Courageous Conversations,” which was created in 2020 during the height of the U.S. presidential election season.

“To the encouragement of President Julio Frenk and also taking a look at the current state of the world, our goal is to assure students feel welcomed and ultimately know that we as an institution support all students,” said Patricia A. Whitely, senior vice president for student affairs.

On Wednesday, March 29, Frenk will host the “Courageous Conversations” discussion “Embracing Religious Diversity” at 5 p.m. in the Lakeside Village Expo. This in-person event, sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, School of Education and Human Development, and Louis J. Kuriansky Foundation, is designed to foster inclusion and belonging for all members of the University community. Participants are encouraged to voice their perspectives.

The panel will feature Eboo Patel, founder and president of Interfaith America; Antonio Mora, visiting associate professor in the School of Communication and Emmy-winning journalist; and Mary Anne Franks, professor of law and Michael R. Klein Distinguished Scholar Chair in the School of Law.

“We look forward to looking at this topic in depth and ensuring that we understand each other through a lens of compassion,” said Whitely.

The event is open to all members of the University community. Those interested in participating in Wednesday’s event should register online.
