“Slow Looking with the Lowe: Early Gauguin/Late Monet”
Tola Porter, Lowe Art Museum educator for academic and public programs, will lead participants through a virtual 30-minute mindful and interactive engagement with two paintings—one early-career painting by Paul Gauguin and one late-career painting by Claude Monet. Together we’ll explore the different ways Gauguin and Monet approached Impressionistic depiction from two opposite points in their artistic oeuvres. Register to attend.

“Lowe Connects: Vodou en Vogue”
Eziaku Nwokocha, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Vodou Priestess Manbo Maude will explore the intersection of fashion and spirit in contemporary Haitian vodou. The virtual discussion will link manner of dress and adornment with religious belief and community in the practice of vodou today. Based on Nwokocha's recently published book, “Vodou en Vogue: Fashioning Black Divinities in Haiti and the United States,” this wide-ranging discussion between scholar and practitioner also will highlight two of the Lowe Art Museum's vodou flags by artist Clotaire Bazile. “The Cintas Foundation: An Archival Perspective”
Attend the opening reception of “The CINTAS Foundation: An Archival Perspective,” which includes a conversation with Hortensia Sampedro, former CINTAS Foundation president; Manuel E. González, independent curator and former CINTAS Foundation board member; and Cristina Nosti, director of events and programming at Books & Books and CINTAS Foundation board member. The discussion will be moderated by Elizabeth Cerejido, curator for Cuban collections at CHC. Register to attend the free event.

Richter Library, this exhibit celebrates the important contribution to Cuban and Cuban diasporic cultural production by the CINTAS Foundation, whose records were generously donated to the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries in 2019.

The University of Miami hosts the Florida Printmakers Society 2023 Biennial Competition exhibition. The show includes 32 pieces made from a wide variety of print material, including cyanotypes, relief prints, etchings, stone lithographs, collographs, monoprints, silkscreens, digital prints, embossing, and various combinations of these different types of printing methods.
