Often, students may find making new connections and networking in person intimidating. To assist them with improving their chances of securing an internship or job, the Toppel Career Center at the University of Miami hosted its annual Job & Internship Expo—it's largest career fair of the semester—last week at the Watsco Center.

More than 100 employers came to the University of Miami for the expo seeking interns and full-time employees in various industries. From the Miami Heat to Estée Lauder Companies Inc., one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of beauty and skin care products, students had the opportunity to share their resumes and speak one-on-one with representatives from a variety of companies.

“This is my first time attending a job fair; and for me, it's been very chill, very laid back, and fun,” said Lucia Moscarella, a junior studying creative advertising and sociology, who said that she hopes to find an internship in communications. “I’ve had nothing but nice encounters with the employers here.”

Students who attended the fair could explore a wide range of not only internship and career opportunities, but graduate programs, too.

“I’m looking for either a job or to get a Master of Science in Finance and honestly, it's amazing to be here today because I feel like there is a real opportunity to land either one,” said Ashley Hohl, a senior studying finance and marketing. “I feel like all of these companies are really excited about meeting with us and answering our questions.”

Nicaragua native Valeria Delagneau is a junior studying marketing and entrepreneurship, and it was her second time attending the expo.

“Last year was more like just introducing myself, but this year it's a bit more serious,” said Delagneau. “It’s been a great experience being able to meet so many people from potential employers. Hopefully something good comes out of it.”

Devin Wang, a junior majoring in entrepreneurship, went to the event looking for an internship.

“I’m hoping to land an internship in hospitality or marketing,” said Wang, who was attending the career fair for the first time. “I’m kind of nervous but I feel prepared for what’s ahead.”
