Celebrations abound with homecoming and alumni fun

The University of Miami’s most spirited week of the year has arrived—Alumni Weekend and Homecoming 2023.

The traditional Hurricane Howl boat burning ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 27 at Lake Osceola.

University of Miami ’Canes everywhere are getting ready to indulge in festivities with this year’s “Leave Your Legacy” homecoming theme, both on campus and at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.

This year's homecoming theme was developed by the Homecoming Executive Committee (HEC), which encourages ’Canes everywhere to reflect on their own individual power and contributions to the history of the U. Inspired by the world of superheroes and comic books, the theme calls on students to consider the impact they are making within the University’s community and beyond.

Homecoming wouldn’t be complete without the exhilarating football game that brings students, alumni, and fans together to support the Hurricanes. This year, the Miami Hurricanes football team is set to face the University of Virginia Cavaliers on Oct. 28.

In anticipation for this year’s homecoming week, students, faculty and staff members, and alumni can expect to enjoy a wide array of exciting events and traditions. The “’Canes Assemble!” opening ceremony, happening on Monday, Oct. 23, encourages students and faculty and staff members to wear orange as the HEC kicks off the week. Billboard chart-topping rapper Quavo will headline this year’s Hurricane Productions Homecoming Concert on Thursday, Oct. 26, with solo artist and current student Travian McNair opening the performance at the Watsco Center.

Of course, it wouldn’t be homecoming without the traditional Hurricane Howl boat burning ceremony, taking place on Friday, Oct. 27 at Lake Osceola. Events begin at 5 p.m. with a food truck block party on Stanford Drive following the evening fireworks display.

As Homecoming 2023 unfolds, the University invites students, faculty and staff members, alumni, and fans to come together, celebrate their shared legacy, and revel in the exhilaration of being part of a community that thrives on making a difference. So, don your superhero cape and get ready to embrace the spirit of superheroes with this lineup of events you can expect during Homecoming 2023:
