In addition to his daily responsibilities as senior manager with the University’s Information Technology (UMIT) team, Orlando Melendez remains committed to community service and making a difference.

To further his personal mission, Melendez began volunteering at United Way Miami.

Inspired by the organization’s work in the community, which Melendez witnessed first-hand, he knew he wanted to do more. That’s when he signed up to serve as his team’s United Way Campaign Ambassador and help raise funds for those in need.

“I wanted to bring awareness within UMIT, and the University overall, of [the United Way] and their contribution to the community,” he said.

That was three years ago, and he is as committed today as he was when he first took on the role.

His words of encouragement to those looking to get involved—help out where you can.

Melendez followed that response with a quote from Booker T. Washington, “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.”

And happy he is.

Melendez hopes others will get to experience the joy of giving back, whether by donating their time and/or resources.

“Please donate or join us and get involved with this magnificent organization,” he added.

As he continues to navigate the new challenges of fundraising, Melendez perseveres to make a positive change through United Way Miami.
