If you are planning to vote in the upcoming general election, it’s important to be prepared. Follow these steps to ensure you are ready.
1: Register to vote.
Make sure you’re registered to vote. If you’re unsure of your registration status, you can verify it with the Florida Division of Elections. To register or update your information, visit the following county websites:
- Miami-Dade County Elections Department. Review your Miami-Dade voter information here.
- Broward County Supervisor of Elections. Review your Broward voter information here.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 7.
2: Choose your voting method.
There are several convenient voting options:
- In-Person Voting – If you choose to vote in person, you must vote at your assigned polling location on Election Day. Precincts are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. View the Miami-Dade Voter Information Guideand Broward Election FAQ to know what you need to bring with you to vote.
- Mail-In Voting – Voting by mail is a convenient option if you prefer to vote from home. Florida law requires voters to request a vote-by-mail ballot for every election cycle. This includes municipal elections, primaries, and the 2024 general election. To vote by mail, request your ballot online through the Miami-Dade County Elections Department or Broward County Supervisor of Elections.
The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is Oct. 24.
- Early Voting – If you prefer to vote before Election Day, you can take advantage of early voting opportunities. Sites are open approximately two weeks before Election Day.

3: Be informed.
Before casting your vote, take the time to utilize reliable resources to research the candidates and issues. Prepare yourself in advance of the upcoming election by viewing your sample ballot for Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Students can access voter and election resources through the Butler Center for Service and Leadership and can register to vote using TurboVote, the primary voter registration platform for the University of Miami.
