Dive into Cuba and its relationship to the US
In-person course launches Monday, Jan. 13.
Taught by Andy Gómez, former director of the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, the 6-week course will focus on the history of U.S.-Cuba relations and guide students through the political history and pivotal figures shaping this complex relationship from 1959 to today. Members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) can enroll in the in-person course during the spring; Session 1 launches Monday, Jan. 13, and Session 2 launches Monday, March 10. Those interested in participating should call 305-284-6554 to become a member of OLLI at the University of Miami and enroll in the course. University employees may be eligible for a discount of 25 percent. Seating is limited.
Well ’Canes Marketplace resumes on Coral Gables Campus
Open Wednesdays, Jan. 15 through April 30
The University community can enjoy the Well ’Canes Marketplace every Wednesday, beginning on Jan. 15, when vendors return to the Coral Gables Campus, through April 30 (except for March 12). The weekly market will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Miller Circle. The Medical Campus will continue to host the marketplace from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday at the Fred Cowell Mall. It is open year-round, except on University holidays. Learn more about the markets.
‘Let’s Go to Brazil!’ Family concert
Saturday, Jan. 18, 2 p.m.
Canes of all ages will be taken on an adventure to beautiful and colorful Brazil. The program features compositions by Brazilian composers, performed by Frost musicians. The family-friendly event is produced by Frost Live Entertainment Management students under the direction of Gary Wood, assistant professor of practice at the Frost School of Music. Purchase tickets to see the show at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall. Use code “family4” to snag a bundle of up to four tickets for $30.
