Snag savings on essential supplies for hurricane season. Now!
The Atlantic hurricane season runs through Nov. 30. Learn about the many ways you can prepare: review our brief guide to hurricane preparedness, participate in hurricane preparedness trainings, and save on essential supplies. As of Friday, Aug. 1, many emergency supplies are now permanently exempt from state sales tax. This means disaster supplies can be purchased year-round without paying sales tax, rather than having to wait for specific sales tax holidays. Review a list of items that are included. OLLI Open House: Looking for a community of lifelong learners? 
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Community members are invited to attend an open house for the University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), which provides a fun and relaxed learning environment for adults aged 50+. The free event will be held at Lau Founders Hall, 1550 Brescia Ave., on the Coral Gables Campus. Participants will have an opportunity to meet OLLI members and instructors, learn about Fall 2025 classes and activities, and enjoy light refreshments. All attendees will receive a 10 percent discount on their OLLI membership. Plus, eligible University employees and alumni receive a 25 percent discount on membership. Parking is free. Bring a friend—and plan to make a new one! Register to attend.

Become a certified career champion

The Career Champions Network at the University of Miami is a group of about 200 faculty and staff members who have been certified as career champions by gaining access to up-to-date information and tools that can be used to enhance the career conversations they are having with students. To gain certification, members participate in a series of interactive, virtual sessions with their colleagues, which are hosted throughout the semester. Fill out an interest form to receive more information and a schedule for the fall events. The first session on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at noon will provide top resources and information for faculty and staff members.

‘Annette and Rudi Rada: Photographing Mid-Century South Florida and the Caribbean’
Saturday, Sept. 6, 2 p.m.
Victor Deupi, professor at the School of Architecture, will give a lecture on the exhibition “Annette and Rudi Rada: Photographing Mid-Century South Florida and the Caribbean” at the HistoryMiami Museum. Through their work, the renowned husband-and-wife photographer duo, Annette and Rudi Rada, has profoundly shaped the understanding of South Florida and the Caribbean during the latter half of the 20th century. Purchase tickets to attend and learn more about the exhibition, which is on display through Sept. 14. Also, tune in to a free virtual presentation by Deupi about his book on Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. hosted by the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami.

University students and faculty and staff members can expect to see AI Companion throughout the Zoom platform, with features available for products including Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, and more.
