2026 Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series

The University of Miami Alumni Association will proudly recognize 2026 Distinguished Alumna Kim Stone, University trustee and chief executive officer of the Washington Spirit, at this year’s Distinguished Alumni Lecture titled “It All Started At the U: From Championships to Changing the Game.” Stone’s leadership journey began during the Hurricanes’ 1991 national championship season, continued through NBA titles with the Miami Heat, and extended to the Golden State Warriors during their championship era. Now leading one of the most successful women’s professional sports organizations in the Washington Spirit, she shares candid lessons on winning, leadership, and building cultures of excellence. Attend the Center for Global Black Studies’ Africa Forum 2026

Friday, March 6, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Africa Forum 2026 aims to deepen research and collaborative efforts between U.S. and African academic institutions focusing on the economic and geostrategic impacts of the U.S.-China engagement in Africa. This event includes a capacity-building workshop for graduate students and junior faculty on March 5 and a one-day symposium open to all on March 6, focusing on the theme “China and the United States in Africa: A New ‘Cold War’?” The symposium features a keynote address by Toyin Falola, an acclaimed scholar in African history from the University of Texas at Austin, along with panel discussions and breakout sessions for students, as well as local and international faculty members. Presentations and discussions will address the historical paths that have established the presence of two powerful countries and their impact on Africa. Register to attend.

The Iron Arrow Honor Society is accepting nominations for the David McDonald Iron Arrow Sophomore Leadership Award and Scholarship. This award recognizes outstanding sophomore students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, scholarship, and commitment to the University of Miami community. Students and faculty and staff members are encouraged to nominate deserving sophomores who exemplify the five pillars of Iron Arrow: leadership, scholarship, character, humility, and love of alma mater.
