Participate in expert art tours at the Lowe Art Museum
Saturday, April 18, 1-2 p.m. and April 25, 11 a.m.-noon
Moving across cultures and periods, attend a tour on April 18 to explore eight works of art, beginning with Frank Stella’s iconic 1974 painting, “Le Neveu de Rameau.” The group will contrast the primarily visual and contemplative purpose of art of our time with the multiple ritual, devotional, and functional purposes of art from the past, striving to answer the question: What is art for? On April 25, participants can explore the connections between ancient and contemporary Japanese ceramics in the Lowe’s Asian art collection, led by museum educator Simone Sutnick.
