Speakers for Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series announced

The Miami Business School is bringing business leaders to campus to share experiences and insights with the UM community.

The University of Miami Business School has announced the next eight speakers of its Distinguished Leaders Lecture Series. This series brings together students, alumni, and members of the UM community with top business leaders. All the lectures are at Storer Auditorium, 5250 University Drive, on the Coral Gables campus, starting at 6 p.m.

Thursday, January 17, 2019:

Jaclyn Baumgarten

Jacklyn BaumgartenChief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the Boatsetter, a leading boat sharing start-up. Baumgarten has close to 20 years of experience as a startup expert and a founding member of new industries. In Boatsetter, her leadership led to the creation of the peer-to-peer marine insurance policy that launched the industry.


Tuesday, February 5, 2019:

Brian Duperreault

Brian DuperreaultPresident and Chief Executive Officer of American International Group. Previous to that post, Duperreault served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Hamilton Insurance Group, Ltd until Feb. 15, 2017. With 40 years of experience, Duperreault has extensive insurance and investment expertise.


Wednesday, February 13:

Emil Michael

Emil MichaelFormer Senior Vice President for business for Uber. He has a great deal of experience as an entrepreneur and was Chief Operating Officer of Klout, a website and social media app that measured an individual’s social influence. He also worked as an official at the White House.


February 27, 2019:

Kenneth Langone, Sr.

Kenneth Langone Sr.Langone is the co-founder of Home Depot. He is a respected entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist with an estimated worth of over $3 billion, according to Forbes. He worked in a Wall Street financial services company and has served on several boards including that of General Electric.


March 6, 2019:

Jeffrey D. Sachs

Jeffrey D. SacksA world-renowned professor of economics, leader in sustainable development, senior UN advisor, bestselling author, and syndicated columnist whose monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 100 countries. He has twice been named among Time Magazine’s 100 most influential world leaders. A recent survey by The Economist Magazine ranked Professor Sachs as among the world’s three most influential living economists of the past decade.


 March 19, 2019:

Steve Nelson

Steve NelsonChief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare, a $180 billion managed health care company. It offers health care products and insurance services.Previously he served as Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare and Retirement business, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to seniors and Medicare beneficiaries.


Tuesday, April 2, 2019:

A. Parasuraman

A ParasuramanJames W. McLamore Chair and professor of marketing at the Miami Business School, he received the Bank of America Senior Faculty Research Award in May 2016. Parasuraman's research interests include services marketing; service quality measurement; the role of technology in customer service; marketing research methodology/model building; business-to-business marketing; and marketing management and strategy.


Wednesday, April 17, 2019:

Ana Patricia Botin

Ana Patricia BotinExecutive Chairman of the Santander Group, a Spanish multinational commercial bank and financial services company. She is the fourth generation of her family to hold the role of executive chairman. Prior to this she was CEO of Santander UK, a role she held from December 2010. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Harvard Business School.
