The transition of power commenced April 17 as Niles Niseem, Angela Ansah, and Paige-Tatum Hawthorne were sworn in as the University of Miami’s new Student Government president, vice president, and treasurer, respectively.

Voted in by the student body, Niseem, who ran under the campaign ticket “UndeniableU,” described the moment of being sworn in as a blessing.

“Grateful is an understatement,” said the junior, who is majoring in broadcast journalism. “It is such a blessing to have made my family and friends proud.”

This time last year, he lost his election as vice president, and he said that he considers this win extra special.

“I feel as if I have finished my redemption arc—this chapter of my story is finished. But we are only just getting started,’’ said Niseem.

He is most excited to bring an electric energy to campus. The first project Niseem and his executive board members plan to introduce to their constituents is a way to continue working to bridge the gap between Student Government and the student body.

“We want to streamline the process of getting feedback from the student body and giving them what they want to see,” said Niseem. “I believe that we can create what is undeniably the greatest college experience in the world.”
